Kyo Wazarashi Mensya

Wash after wash, it gets softer and fluffier for a cozy feel.

What is Kyo Wazarashi Mensya?

Kyo Wazarashi Mensya is our original gauze product series. Wazarashi is the Japanese traditional method of cotton scouring, a process of removing impurities such as grease, wax, minerals and similar substances from cotton fiber.

Common kier machines only take 40 to 80 minutes of boiling to remove the impurities from the cotton. Wazarashi scouring process, on the other hand, takes 4 days to remove those natural impurities without damaging the fiber structure, making it even softer and airier than other gauze products.

Cotton gauze processed with the Wazarashi process displays a beautifully rounded shape in the cross-section view of the cotton fiber. The preserved fiber structure creates a layer of air, making the cotton high moisture-absorbable and breathable.

Often, double layered gauze products are tacked together with small stitches in between. The pingings were made to prevent the fabric from shifting during sewing. However, we sew double layered gauze, even triple layered gauze without pinging each layer. Despite the difficulty, we sew the gauze fabric layers together with great care and years of professional skills.

This is how we make our gauze products. By creating wider space between layers, our gauze can not only breathe better, but keep the warmth better at the same time.
