Made from linen finished in Omi, Shiga 

The linen fabric used in the ‘Suira Jofu’ series is woven in Ōmi, in the Koto region of Shiga Prefecture, an area where the linen weaving industry has flourished since ancient times, thanks to the pure waters of Lake Biwa.

In ancient times, high-quality linen fabrics were treated as tribute items for Shinto priestly families and the shogunate, and during the Edo period, they were also used as gifts.

Omi’s weaving techniques are a traditional craft that originated in Uzumasa, Kyoto, and developed from there.

During the Tenpyo era, it became a stable sideline occupation for farmers and was spread throughout the country by Omi merchants; at its peak, annual production reached approximately one million tan.

Omi’s linen textiles came to be highly prized for their high quality and a sophistication not found in other regions.

The ‘Suira Jofu’ series is crafted from linen woven using traditional techniques honed over a long history. When it’s time to rest, do allow yourself to be enveloped in the comfort that comes from tradition.
